A well crystallized example of a species that is very rare from this mining district. Fuzzy olive green acicular crystals of olivenite are richly covering the front side of this 19 x 25 x 35 mm matrix. Very clean of damage, especially considering the acicular nature of the crystals. Only 3 or 4 specimens of olivenite are known from the location. Ex Don Belsher collection. |

A very fine and choice miniature of colorless "goshenite" beryl measuring 4 x 2.3 x 2.7 cm in size overall! These are glassy water clear transparent tabular crystals of beryl; there are prismatic dark green crystals of elbaite to 18 mm in length scattered about. Very clean of damage with only microscopic level chipping in one place on the beryl; and some minor chipping to a few of the elbaite crystals, these latter I believe mainly to be "contacting". Displays well; good goshenite in this quality is not easy to find. Ex John Barlow specimen with a signed label. |

This is a classic old locality in central Europe. The example shown here is quite good, with a prismatic green terminated fluorapatite crystal measuring 13 x 10 x 23 mm in size set upon a matrix of colorless crystallized quartz. The fluorapatite crystal is undamaged, with only minor contacting around the base. The quartz crystals show chipping pretty much all over. The specimen measures 2.8 x 2.6 x 4.8 cm in size and is quite good for the species/locality. Ex Don Belsher collection; he acquired the piece from the Lidstrom's in 1969. This mining district in Saxony is well noted for its fine silver minerals. The "toe-nail" sized example here is quite choice for the two species, with black crystallized stephanite, the main crystal doubly terminated and measuring 1 cm in length, covering most of a 18 x 18 x 34 mm matrix. Completely crystallized all around with tiny sparse crystals of argentopyrite in association. Very minor native silver and crystallized calcite also in association. Nice for this old classic locality! Previous label from Dr. F.P. D'Esopo. Ref: Emser Hefte 4 (1), 38-71; Lapis 30 (7-8), 41-66. |
